Canada is taking the piss

Funny how our federal, provincial and local politicians behave more like greasy public relations operators than candid information providers.

Take broadband connectivity and communications as an example.

We are fed the line by all parties that Canada insists on fair trading practices in a competitive commercial arena, overseen by a progressive and enlightened government.

We are fed the line that Canada is a leader in technology, the war on poverty, the war on drugs, the battle for democratization, the struggle for universal education and of course the need to a health plan that satisfies every demographic.

We were a member of the G7, G8 and now G20.

How is that in all this chest pounding from the officials who run Cirque du Canada, that our broadband and mobile telephone company's are allowed a) to run such substandard services and b) over charge by many multiples for services that in some instances, in other countries come close to zero cost levels?

Take broadband as the example. This Canada of ours lags behind the following in Kbps, the fastest being at the top of the list:

Korea
Japan
France
Finland
Netherlands
United States
Germany
Denmark
Austria
Norway
Greece
Sweden
Portugal
New Zealand
Switzerland
Italy
Belgium
Czech Republic
CANADA

Next time you open your Telus Mobility or Telus Communications, Shaw, Rogers, Fido or Bell bill, think Cirque du Canada. Yep folks, our telecommunications and broadband industry is a circus, we are the clowns and our bureaucrats are the ringmasters.

See you in the big top!!
